Once upon a time, there was a town whose name had long since become just a nickname. The original had somehow been swallowed by the past. So completely, in fact, that on the rare occasions when they actually needed it, half the town would feverishly dig through the archives, insisting it had to be there somewhere. And then, by the next day, they would have forgotten even the scrap of paper they had written it on.

But what truly matters is this: nothing ever happened in the town. And nothing happened so much that everything I tell you here, I had to make up. And so, if by any chance… possibly… accidentally… the planets were to align in such a mysterious way that any of this seemed familiar— that would still be pure coincidence.

And every year on 28 July, the residents gather to commemorate the heroes and the anniversary of the Great War.

Yesterday, the city’s special units were deployed to an incident on Apple Seed Street after a report that two local youths had thrown a rock into Mrs. Lavor’s apartment through its locked window.
